I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy

A few days ago, I watched the film, Yankee Doodle Dandy with Cagney. It told of patriotic songs, culture, history from before WWI to WWII. George M. Cohan was the subject of the film. I have seen Joel Gray in George M, the play. In the long ago, films by Capra, Stevens, Hawks, Ford, had patriotic and American cult status. I then began to think of all the traitors in US history from Arnold to Burr to people in the Civil War like the killer of ole Abe. Then in WWI, there was the foreigner, Mata Hari and even the writers and perps of the Zimmerman Letter via Mexican-German entries and spying in WWI. As the '20's came, Americans were in an isolationist mood. By the Depression, FDR took into his Administration many many sympathizers with the Soviet experiment and later with the Maoist experiment. I remember all of this in the early '40's though a kid. My grandfather was a VP of the AFL and was the lone Republican on the Board. He railed against the Red opportunists in the Labor Union movement. Then in the innovations of atomic energy, we had the Fuchs, Oppenheimer, Rosenbergs, and Alger Hiss miscreants. All of them just could not see America outflank Russia or any other socialist nation with the lone nuclear superiority. And odd view of patriotism. So they spied and traded secrets. Oh did the Left wail when they were found out. Years later, all of them had been exposed by many many writers and the Left still cried. HUAC was formed because of this spying and even actors had Soviet sympathies. Of course, poor drunken Senator McCarthy was a fraud himself, but some of his exposures were still true. All through the '50's-'60's there were lefties who ranted against the Government and American superiority in all things economic, cultural and scientific as well as militarily. It went on in the '70's and 80's and guess what? Many liberal Dem representatives were just as bad as former traitors by passing laws which penalized the USA but not our enemies. The Church Committee was one example. So were laws that were broken with impunity by Senator Leaky Leahy. No wonder that few CIA, DIA, NSA people could trust these Democrats with state secrets of national security. Then we found out about Robert Hansen and a whole family of Naval traitors back on the East Coast. The FBI, CIA and even our military had traitors. Can you imagine? We have even today people like Durbin, Leahy, Sanders, Murtha, media outlets like the NYTimes and other people from the past like Phillip Agee released the names of FBI, CIA, NSA, military secrets all in the name of 'transparancy and freedom of information.' Of course, that all has undermined our national defense and security procedures. And who could trust Pelosi, Leahy, Durbin, right now with secrets? How bout Reid, Harken (another old line lefty who railed against the CIA and military years ago), Boxer and other assorted leftist nutters? Would you trust them with say, military scenarios to take out Iran? I would not. I would not even trust the CIC today. He might think it was neat and above the fray to warn our enemies. I simply cannot write with any more passion in that I simply do not trust any liberal, leftist, socialist with any of our national security concerns. Right wingers may have their extremists. But, none of them historically gave out national security secrets to our international enemies. In fact, in the '40's, Senator Taft, Pub, and Senator Vandenberg, Dem both agreed that national security was too important to make it partisan. But , since the '50's, the Left has done more to undermine America militarily than most of our enemies. There was an old book: None Dare Call it Treason.  Frankly, I am close to calling the Left's abuse of our democratic capitalistic republic and dissing of our military, certainly near it.
